Output Device, What is Output Device, Definition of Output Device, Types of Output Device, Functions of Output Device, Output Devices of Computer
Do you know What is Output Devices? and What is the Output Device in computer? This is the information of computer fundamentals. Everyone should know about this devices. We are surrounded by electronic devices like computer, mobile, tablet. We have started spending most of the time with these devices. Hardware is used to make these devices. If we talk about hardware components of the computer, some of which are Keyboard, Mouse, motherboard speaker, RAM, Hard Disk, DVD Drive, Monitor. You will find this devices in every computer. Some of which are Input Device, Output Device, Processing and Storage Device.
What is Output Device?
Output Devices are hardware that can be used to display text and graphics. It is usually consist of a screen, but they can also be a printer, projector or audio device. They are connected to the computer via cables. Computer output devices are often used to display information to the user on their screens. For example, printers are commonly used to make hard copies of documents created using word processing software programs on a computer. Out means outside and Put means to keep. The whole meaning is to keep outside. This device shows the process data outside. For example- Monitor, Speaker, Printer, Projector, Plotter.
In Monitor, we see Movie, File, Folders, Apps, Menu, Desktop etc all on this device. Now you might be seeing the things written by me on this monitor only. Be it Mobile or Tablet. When listening to songs in the speaker, that to emits the sounds of a spring. Printer also takes out the print out. So lets known in detail about types of output devices.
Types of Output Devices
Output devices can be divided into two parts. Simply put, there are two major types of output devices.
1. Soft Copy
2. Hard Copy
1. Soft Copy
These are the output devices by which the output provides is in an intangible form. It means that we cannot touch it. They do not have any shape. They do not have any physical existence. Example- Monitor, Speaker.
2. Hard Copy
These are the output devices by which the output provides is in tangible form, which means we can touch it. It has shape. Example- Printer, Plotter.
Output Devices of the Computer
Here I have told you about output device list. We cannot tell about all but we will give complete information about some parts of it. So let’s know about them.
1. Monitor
It is an electronic device that shows some output to computers. It looks just like it TV a big and good display resolution help us to show fine graphics. This hardware produces video and graphics using the video card. Monitor is placed on the desk just as the TV is hung on the wall. It is used to see video, image, document app in computer. If there was no monitor then what is going on inside the computer we don’t know where to click.
Sometimes monitor is also known by these names such as screen, display, video display, video display terminal, video display unit and videos screen. Due to lack of knowledge, sometimes they are also called computer. This is the reality. This monitor is also one of the other hardware of computers. Shutting down the computer and shutting down the monitor are two different things.
Facts about Monitor
Monitor is connected to HDMI, DVI, and VGA port. Other connectors are USB, Display Port and Thunderbolt. Before buying a new monitor, keep one thing in mind that both the connectors should be the same. If your computer supports VGA and you have brought a monitor, then the HDMI port will be of no use. By the way, nowadays Multi Port Monitors are available in the market. (WordPad)
Types of Monitor
(a) CRT Monitor
They are heavy and large and use up a lot of desk space and electricity. This is the oldest technology used. It is cathode ray tube technology based, which were made for television. But these monitors do not work nowadays.
(b) LCD
This is like a flat panel display. It is a newer technology then CRT. These monitors use less desk space. It is of less weight. These monitors use less electricity. The same monitors are being used since a long time. On laptops and notebook computers, they also act as a touch screens on tablet computers, mobile phones.
2. Printer
Printer is an output device which prints the information received from the computer on paper. This copy of the output on paper is called hard copy. The output of the document from computer is very first and printer is not able to work so first. That’s why the need was felt that information can be stored in the printer itself. So the printer also as a memory from where it prints the result slowly. There are many types of printers according to the use of technology whose information is already given below.
(a) Daisy-wheel
It is similar to the ball-head typewriter. In this type of printer there is a wheel made of plastic or metal. On which the character remains. A spot is pressed against the ribbon on which a character remains. When this pressure falls on the white paper, than a character is formed. This printer can print very clear characters but cannot print graphics.
(b) Dot-matrix
In this, the character is formed after striking the pins against the ink ribbon. When the pin hits the paper once, then a dot is formed there and a character is formed by the union of many dots. Inkjet: Ink is sprayed on a plain paper which is drawn on high quality text and graphic papers.
(c) Laser Printer
The technology which has been used in Xerox machine is also the same technology. Laser printers can also print very high quality text and graphics.
(d) Line Printer
There are many pins or characters in a single line which takes very little time to print a sentence. Despite doing very fast, this printer prints law quality content.
(e) Thermal Printer
It means heat sensitive paper is used in it. Heat pins are post into the heat sensitive paper. It is used in calculators and fax machine.
Characters of Printer
(a) Quality
The letters of Output are printed from printers. They are divided into three qualities. We can call them Letter Quality, Near Letter Quality or Draft Quality. Letter quality printer’s names are daisy-wheel, inkjet and laser printers.
(b) Speed
Talking about the speed of printers, their measurement is known by characters per second (cps). The higher the CPS the better the printer. The name of the slowest printer is Daisy-wheel whose speed is 30 CPS. Line printers are one of the fastest speed printers whose speed is 3000 CPS Dot Matrix printers 500 CPS and Laser printers 4 to 20 text pages in a minute.
(c) Graphics
Some printed such as daisy-wheel and line printers can only print text. All the remaining can print both text and graphic images.
(d) Fonts
Dot-matrix printers have fonts of a few minutes. If we talk about laser and ink-jet printers, in which countless fonts are available. Daisy-wheel will printed also have a few selected printers.
3. Plotter
Plotter used to obtain high quality drawings and graphs on large paper. It is mainly used in engineering, building construction, city planning map etc. There is an AC output device that draws picture according to the command given by the computers. There is a lot of difference between plotter and printers in this pen is used to draw something. Multicolour plotter pens of different colours are used. If it is a matter of money, then this device is much more expensive than printer. They are used in engineering application.
4. Screen Projector
Projector is also an output device. Using this, all the motion methods of the computer screen are shown on the big screen. Using this we can show presentations. The output of this device can be displayed on a wall or on a white screen. Generally, the surface on which the light is projected should be large in surface size, straight and white in colour. Projectors are used to play moving images, slide slow and videos presentation can be shows to is large number of people. The size of this device is also small and the weight is also less.
5. Speaker
By using this we can hear the sound. It presents a soft copy of the output in the form of sound. The language of computers is the speaker. It is an output and hardware device, which generates sounds from computers. The sound produced by computer speaker is generated by a component of the computer called the sound card. Speakers are already there in laptop on the upper end of the keyboard.
